Without a doubt the most common comment a foster parent will get from a new person they meet is, “I would get too attached, I couldn’t give them back.”
Can you please stop saying this.
There are many reasons not to become a foster parent, but this is not one of them.
The whole point is to get too attached. It should hurt to say goodbye to a child that has been in your care. When we hurt it is because we have Loved, and isn’t that what every child deserves? Our hurt is nothing compared to that of the child who may have had to say goodbye to another person that has meant something to them.
A baby, a child, needs attachment more then an adult needs to be protected by it. So please today or tomorrow if you see a foster parent or if you know one, instead of saying what everyone else says without thinking it through, ask how they are. Because the pain does hurt, but what kind of world would we live in if we didn’t open our homes and hearts to the most vulnerable in our community?
Thank you for hearing that with Grace.
Thank you for journeying with me and supporting our family.
Thank you for loving us so that we can love the little people.
Not everyone can or should become a Foster Parent, but Everyone can do something.
